Updated at the bottom...
A fundraising competition for Project Valour-IT is coming to the blogging world November 2! From Fuzzilicious Thinking - bloggers who would like to participate in this fundraising competition are encouraged to pick a team, teams divided along military branches, with civilians "up for grabs."
I will be joining the competition with my blog, and as a civilian I sat wondering which team I should add my voice to when I read this:
A Note to My Beloved and Hard-charging Marines:
Before you make me dash for the bunker, ducking incoming fire all the way, hear me out... In determining the composition of the teams, the existence of a big blogger who could lead each team was an important factor. The fact that there is no non-deployed Marine blogger with a huge readership is a big disadvantage in fundraising. With that in mind, the decision was made to combine the Navy and Marine bloggers into a single team to keep things competitive.
However, I know that Marines specialize in doing the "impossible," and doing it with less. SO... if you want to put together a Marines-only team (plus supporters) and enter the competition that way, Go For It!
Ok, I'm a civilian, and not even a "big blogger", but I like to think I specialize in the "impossible". So - would anyone like to join me in putting together a Marines-only team AND WIN THE COMPETITION??
Learn more here...and of course more to follow later!
UPDATE: Ok, I get to be the Marine Team Leader! In honor of Kyle Anderson, my favorite wounded soldier and the most amazing Marine, who not only beats impossible odds but excedes them, I am happy to take up the challenge. (Plus Kyle would kick my butt if I didn't stand up for the Marines!)
The other team leaders have yet to be announced, but they will be soon. The other team leaders (Navy, Air Force and Army) will all be BIG blogs with high traffic...so our Marine team will be the underdogs. I'm quite sure that the other team leaders' hourly traffic probably excedes my weekly traffic - so we need to work harder to spread the word. To that end - I'm getting a head start...(anything to help the underdogs!!).
So, want to get involved? Here's how....
If you are a blogger:
Join my team!!! Put a post up on your blog letting people know about the Project Valour-IT Fundraising Competition. Leave a trackback to this post or leave a comment below to let me know you are officially on the Marine Team.
If you are not a blogger, but a blog reader:
You can also help by spreading the word with flyers and word of mouth.
Starting November 2nd donate to Project Valour-IT to help us win the competition. Tell everyone you know about the competition. Details on how to do just that will be provided in the next day or so.
Everyone - Spread the word!!!!

I am in Navy DEP, but I am not going in the Navy, I am in the process of going USMC.... I am not sure technically if I am Navy or civilian, but my heart is with the Marines. I definitely don't consider myself Navy. Could I be on the Marine team?

Sue, since you are a blogger as well...you can join the team. Visit the link above at Fuzzilicious for more info on blogging the competition.
For everyone else - The competition starts next Weds, and runs until November 11th. So starting next Weds you can make donations to project Valour-IT that will count towards the competition totals. I'll have more info on how to do just that in the next day or so.
In the meantime - advance planning ....tell everyone you know about the competition and tell all the bloggers you can think of to come and join our team!!! And blog the heck out of it!
