Testing the Positive News Site - Wanna See?
By Holly Aho on Nov 18, 2005 | In The Positive News
I've set up the positive news site I mentioned in this post. For the moment I'm calling it SAHA News...as I lack the imagination to think of something else...lol. I must admit, as this is a news site that has a conservative owner, liberals might not find some articles to be positive in their opinion (oh well). Now, I need some input. This is the plan so far...
What is considered positive: Successes, heroes....good news of course.
What is NOT considered positive: Failures, arguing...negative stuff of course.
There are 9 11 categories:
- Afghanistan
- Business
- Editorials
- Health
- Heroes
- Iraq
- Nation
- Politics
- Sports
- Technology
- World
The site is also in 5 languages:
- English
- Arabic
- French
- German
- Spanish
Now admittedly, I don't speak anything but English. So....while the site navigation, menus and static pages will translate to each language, the news stories will not necessarily do so. The only stories that will appear in other languages are the ones I was able to find (credibly) translated for me.
Additional languages can be added upon request (53 of them).
Would you like to get involved by providing news tips or as a reader or writer? (please!)
For Bloggers:
If you've written a positive story in your blog you may submit it to the site. You have two options for doing this.
#1 - Submit a first paragraph teaser with a link to your blog article for the full story (better traffic for your blog).
#2 - Submit the entire story and include your name as author in the story text along with a link to your blog/blog story.
If you do not have a specific story to submit but generally focus in your blog on one of the 9 news categories listed above you can submit your blog as a link to be an 'additional resource' in any of the categories. Or, if you have a specific category in your blog dedicated to 'Heroes' for example, you can submit the URL for that category of your blog specifically, to be added to the news site as an additional resource. Include your blog's name and appropriate URL in your email, along with the SAHA News site's category that fits it best.
Lastly, you can submit your blog's RSS feed to be added to the SAHA News site. Those readers that chose to register (which is free!) will be able to view all RSS feeds from blogs and major news outlets that interest them on their own personal news page. Please include your blog name and RSS feed URL in your submission.
If you do not have a blog and would still like to submit a news story you may do so as well. Make sure to give yourself credit as the author when writing your story!
All submitted stories will be reviewed for spelling and appropriate content before being published.
If you have a news tip on a positive news story either in the MSM or in a blog please pass it along here. Be sure to include the link and any other information you find relevant.
Lastly, if you would like to register at the site you can do additional fun things like see the latest RSS feeds from blogs and major news sources that interest you - on your own personal news page. Registration is fast and most importantly - FREE!
Ok - that's all for now. Go visit the SAHA News website and see how it's shaping up!
Update: Just noticed this article at Blackfive, which seems quite in keeping with my current thinking and motivation for creating this news website. Here's an excerpt from his post that especially struck home with me:
"Stephen Spruiell meets with Marines and reports on their frustrations with the media. The Marines also get to speak with news producers from NBC and CBS.
...They felt that it's not that the negative stories — like casualty reports — shouldn't be reported, but that we never hear what America is getting for this sacrifice. As one Marine put it, it's like if I spent $7.99 for a slice of pizza and the headlines the next day read, "Marine Out Eight Bucks!"...
I've been hearing the same from my friends. I have yet to meet one Soldier or Marine back from Iraq that is not frustrated with the media's portrayal of the conduct of the war." (Read the rest)
Wouldn't it be nice to have a hard-hitting media outlet where all the good stories were in one place?!? And included the blogs! There you have it. I guess I'm not alone in my desire...now go visit and see if you like the site so far in it's infant stage ![]()
