This Soldier and His Family Need Emotional Support
By Holly Aho on Dec 12, 2005 | In Journal | 4 feedbacks »
Ever read the blog A Storm In Afghanistan? The blog is written by a soldier who was stationed in Afghanistan (of course), and I first started reading his blog because it was filled with wry humor and great writing. This soldier's family recently received very bad news - his wife has breast cancer.
He has been relieved to return to Germany to take care of his wife and family (small children including a new baby), and they could use some emotional support. The cancer had already spread to her lungs before they finally diagnosed it and she is very, very sick. They recently moved to be closer to doctors who can provide better care for his wife, so while she is in chemo he is trying to take care of the children, unpack, and take care of his wife all at once. She is currently in the hospital in intensive care with an extremely high fever.
This has to be so extremely difficult, battling something like this while in a foreign country, far from family and friends. So go visit his blog and leave a comment or two. I'm sure knowing that there are many people who care will help even in a small way to relieve some of the emotional stress.
UPDATE: SC Eagle has provided an address if you'd like to send his wife cards, letters or a carepackage or two. It is:
