Carnival of the Podcasts (Finally)
By Holly Aho on May 8, 2006 | In PODCASTS! | 4 feedbacks »
Ok, finally getting back to the Carnival of Podcasts (I deserve 30 lashes for the lapse in posting it), here are this week's entries. Actually, some of these entries are 1-2 weeks in waiting, so again...shame on me and I appologize. For those of you not entirely familiar with listening to podcasts, you do not need any special equipment (other than your home computer with a media player on it) to listen. Just click the link to a podcast to open it with your computer's media player.
1. Mike Street from the blog Resident Gamer submits a podcast interview with "The Rock" (Dwayne Douglas Johnson) on his new video game SpyHunter. Pretty cool! Wish I'd thought of calling up The Rock for an interview in a podcast. Wonder if Brad Pitt (or Vin Diesel, or Harrison Ford....) has any games coming out....
2. Steve Pavlina's Personal Development Blog submitted the podcast Beyond Religion. Steve's advice style podcast on religion is summed up by him in his last sentence, "In this podcast I present an alternative way to think about your most sacred beliefs, such that you gain their strengths without suffering their limitations."
3. From the blog Mad Kane's Notables comes a podcast(?) called White House Shakeup Song Parody and Limericks. Just a personal opinion of my own, but one song (even if it is written and sung by a blogger) does not necessarily a podcast make....but who am I to judge - decide for yourself.
4. This next podcast carnival submission is one of the shortest I've heard, only 1mn 30 sec. Andrew Ian Dodge from the blog Dodgeblogium, submitted his 100 Word Stories Podcast called Take That. At little over a minute and a half, go listen and see what you think.
5. Over at the blog In Over Your Head Julien Smith calls, "My most recent show and also among my best. A majority of my audience is very young (15-30) but this appeals to all audiences." The theme of this podcast, Music by POS, Copywrite, Mr Lif, and Soul Position - "Half an hour of hip-hop and nonsense." (I didn't say it...they did)
6. Lastly, Robert Bruce from the blog Knife Gun Pen submits the KGP Podcast No. 4, "Wherein the poet makes a desperate monetary plea to his readers for help in obtaining one of the absolute essentials of the bohemian life…"
If you would like to be in the next Carnival of Podcasts you can find entry information HERE. You can also find great information for creating your podcast or learning more about podcasts at that link as well. Podcasts are COOL...start LISTENING to your blogs!

KTSA Interview Finished
By Holly Aho on Feb 27, 2006 | In Journal, PODCASTS! | 2 feedbacks »
My interview about my book on KTSA radio was this evening, and I think (and hope) it went well. I was able to record it, so if you missed it you can listen here:
KTSA Interview
10.5 minutes long, MP3 format (10 M![]()
Jack Riccardi was the show's host, and it was a pleasure to talk with him (he's a great interviewer). I was nervous as usual, stomach all in knots before the show called, but he quickly put me at ease (and I hope I didn't sound like a nervous twit).
I did get the nicest call just an hour before my scheduled interview. The phone rang and I saw the long distance number so I thought it best to answer just in case it had to do with the upcoming interview. The caller was a man who had read my book From Here To There and wanted to let me know how much he enjoyed the book. He thanked me for writing it and went on to tell me that he's a teacher's aid at a college in Illinois, and he found the book so compelling he shared it with the English professor he works with. The professor enjoyed it so much he made it a reading assignment for the entire class with a book discussion afterwards.
I was totally floored. My book was a reading assignment for a college class. How cool is that!?! He said that when asked the students said they also enjoyed the book. This nice caller was too flattering for words! He went on to say that the book was so inspiring it made him want to go right out then and there and do as the book recommended - support our troops in whatever way he could. He said the book was different from many books in that it had such a unique and compelling style that made the reader feel as if the author were a close friend. He appreciated such a book in support of our troops and commented that there are few like it available today.
How wonderful that he took the time to make that call! Any lack of confidence I felt at the upcoming interview disappeared as I thanked him for taking the time to call and let me know his thoughts on the book. What an interesting and great night!

Podcasts? What's the deal lately?
By Holly Aho on Dec 22, 2005 | In PODCASTS! | 1 feedback »
Oh, it's been a while since I did a podcast. I haven't forgotten, just been busy with other stuff. Someone should kick my ass too for not having the carnival up. Anyways, it's odd...the last couple of weeks I've seen a sudden surge in hits to my blog because of podcast entries. Which is odd since I haven't done a podcast since September. Why the sudden interest?
I have been wanting to do another podcast, get going on them again...and was thinking of doing one shortly here. While I'm thinking of it, anyone have any questions I can answer in the podcast? It might be fun to do that. General questions or SA questions or whatever. Just stick them in the comments section of this post.
While I'm on the topic, it'd be nice to have one of those digital recorders I think. You know, like the miniature tape recorders only digital for better sound quality? They would be great for interviews with people that cannot do them via computer. I'll have to check into that. For all I know they're cheap.
Well, check back soon for a new podcast and, I promise, the carnival of podcasts, which will include any and all podcasts that have been submitted to the carnival in the past 2 months while I was too busy to put it up.
Learn More About Project Valour-IT - Listen to the Podcast Interview!

*subliminal message - donate to Project Valour-IT on behalf of the Marine team (use button above)*
Project Valour-IT is a new project within Soldiers Angels that is working to provide laptops and voice software to our soldiers wounded with hand/arm injuries that cannot use their hands to type or write letters. You can find out about the project from it's SA hompage, or read the updates as the project gets underway at the Valour-IT blog.
The project is a co-creation of Chuck Ziengenfuss and Beth, an angel of Soldiers Angels. The first podcast link is an interview from August 2005 (an archived podcast) with Beth about the project, how it got started, how much had been accomplished already in the short time since it started, the goals long and short-term for the project, as well as how you can get involved and help!
Click here to listen to Beth's Interview on Project Valour-IT from August 22, 2005
The second podcast is an interview with Chuck Ziengenfuss, the co-founder of Project Valour-IT, from August 30, 2005. While this interview is not about Valour-IT per se, it is an interesting, personal interview with one of the very soldiers Project Valour-IT is dedicated to helping.
Click here to listen to the SAHA Aug 29th, interview with Capt. Chuck Ziegenfuss
And while I'm at it - Marines are in THIRD PLACE!?!?! The good news is we are only $225 behind the Navy...and Lord help us catch up to the Army team. Check out the team totals here and donate to the team of your choice (MARINES).
Carnival of the Podcasts #5!!
By Holly Aho on Sep 5, 2005 | In PODCASTS! | 2 feedbacks »

Podcasts are fun to listen to and can be heard with any computer that has a media player installed (Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Quicktime ect.). Podcasts range in format from talk shows to music shows, just like radio has a wide variety of stations and formats. Here's this week's entries for the carnival....
First entry is from Josh Cohen at Multiple Mentality. The M-Cast for August 26, 2005 program notes: MM contributor Yoshi occasionally will record the "backing vocals" of an M-Cast. This is such an M-Cast. It features his excellent piece "Can I Use You As A Reference", as well as three other pieces, all by Josh Cohen. Listen carefully for the Strongbadian Easter Egg.

Our next entry is from Mad Kane's Notables and is titled 'Two Crackpot Pats'. Program Notes: Political commentary including a pair of limericks about Pat Robertson and Pat Boone plus a pair of poems about Bush's vacation and his summer reading list.

Next up is a first time entry from Cao's Blog. Podcast is titled 'Mon, 5 September 2005-Interview III & IV'. Program Notes: The last parts of Michael Graham's interview with Robert Spencer, an expert on Islam and terror and the connection between them. References to Robert Spencer's websites and book in the previous posts.

Next up is also a first time entry to the carnival, 'Podcast1024: "Maple Manytet by Bill Sethares"' from the blog Microtonal Podcasts. Program notes: Music from someplace else - a work in progress by Bill Sethares.

Next up is my own podcast for Sept 3rd - Ghostbusters. Program notes: find out what a soldier recently back from Iraq, a soldier injured in Iraq, a radio talk show host, a stay at home mom, flooding and ghostbusters have in common. It's bizarre but true! (And funny too in my opinion)

Podcast for Sept 3rd - Soldier, Talk Show Host & Ghostbusters
By Holly Aho on Sep 3, 2005 | In PODCASTS! | 5 feedbacks »
Here's the weekend edition of the SAHA podcast, and if you need a good laugh or some entertainment this podcast is for you! Program notes...find out what a soldier recently back from Iraq, a soldier injured in Iraq, a radio talk show host, a stay at home mom, flooding and ghostbusters have in common. It's bizarre but true! (And funny too in my opinion)
If you've never listened to a podcast before, and aren't really even sure what one is (it happens
), it's just like a radio show, and mine are in radio talk show format (some are music or whatever). You can listen with your home computer - any type...even Mac...by clicking the link below. The show is in MP3 format so clicking the link will open up a media player on your computer (Windows Media Player, Quicktime, RealPlayer...whatever you have) and start the downloading and playing of the show. Depending on your connection it will either stream the show or download it entirely before it starts.
New SAHA podcasts are up here 3 times a week (if I'm not too lazy), Monday, Weds and Friday, so if you like it...tell your friends and come back for more! And you can check out other cool past podcasts in my blog's Podcast Category (neat interviews and all sorts of stuff).

Ok, today's podcast probably sucks. I appologize in advance. Nothing newsworthy or particularly uplifting. The weekend edition will be better!
